Happy Internationals Womens Day! This video made me so happy I cried a little!
Enjoy these awesome little ladies who are going to go and take on the fascinating world of science, with some amazing female scientists as the inspiration that’ll drive them to know they can do it!
Today, March 8th, marks International Women’s Day:
Which is an event set aside to commemorate and celebrate the achievements and voices of women around the world who are otherwise placed secondary to their male counterparts.
Historically, the story of our species has consistently been dominated by men in positions of power, so, being a woman and having your rights and needs fulfilled and defended has never been an easy task.
People sometimes misconstrue this kind of movement, or those which discuss, (such a dirty word, as it has become), Feminism. They are often misread as something that aims to see women oppress and overpower men, essentially reversing the results of the patriarch, which, to provide one example, currently sees women over represented in low socio-economic groups and under represented in executive positions in the workforce, on an international scale.
To consider this in a domestic context, Indigenous women are one of the most disadvantaged socio-economic groups in the country across the board, from health to education and employment.
The purpose of ideas like International Women’s Day, is to highlight the issues still in place for Women and girls on a global scale, and ultimately gather support and create movement to close the gap in gender equality.
We want to be equals. So this is a fight that concerns all human beings, regardless of their gender identity.
I’m proud to say, throughout the period of 2016 that will see Jack head off to become a bit of a globetrotter, AIME will be fronted by an all female leadership team.
Where once a female in any kind of management position was an exceedingly rare sight, I get to be a part of an organisation whose female presence cannot be avoided.
Like the changes we are gradually but confidently seeing for Aboriginal Australia, we too are seeing them for the women of the world #GIRLPOWER .
And let us hope that our young women, through the empowerment that’s instilled in them through our program, realise that not only to be Indigenous is to be successful, but so too is it to be an Indigenous Woman.
